Jordan Henderson Reportedly Agrees to Move to Al-Ettifaq, Liverpool Negotiating Transfer Fee
Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s 33-year-old captain, is said to have accepted an offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq. The midfielder has been considering the move, which would reunite him with former teammate Steven Gerrard. Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Henderson has verbally agreed to the move and a contract has been agreed upon. He has also received approval from manager Jurgen Klopp to make the switch.
However, Liverpool, who have Henderson contracted until 2026, will require a transfer fee for the player. Both clubs will now enter negotiations to determine the player’s valuation before he can proceed with the move to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has identified Southampton’s Romeo Lavia as a potential replacement for Henderson and is ready to submit a £50 million ($63 million) bid for the midfielder. Additionally, there are rumors linking midfielder Fabinho with a move to the Middle East, as Al-Ittihad are allegedly preparing a bid of £40 million for the Brazilian.
After an impressive 492 appearances for Liverpool, Henderson looks set to bid farewell to Anfield. Since taking over as captain after Gerrard’s departure in 2015, he has led the team to Premier League and Champions League success. However, his decision to play in a country where homosexuality is illegal has raised concerns among a Liverpool LGBTQ+ group.
As Henderson’s future with Liverpool hangs in the balance, the club and fans eagerly await further developments on this transfer saga.
