The remaining singles quarter-finals are completed on Wednesday as Wimbledon continues to take shape.
World number one Carlos Alcaraz will once again showcase his potential as he goes up against fellow rising star Holger Rune, while the women’s final rematch between Ons Jabeur and Elena Rybakina adds excitement to the tournament.
Here, the PA news agency provides an overview of day 10.
Match of the Day
Tennis enthusiasts on Centre Court will witness a battle that feels like a final as Elena Rybakina takes on Ons Jabeur.
This match is a repeat of last year’s final, which saw Rybakina emerge as the victor, claiming her first grand slam title in a thrilling three-set encounter that left Jabeur devastated.
Both players have showcased outstanding form throughout the tournament, making this match a highly anticipated showdown.
Jabeur has expressed that she has learned from her defeat in last year’s final and is eager for revenge.
King Carlos to Reign?
Carlos Alcaraz’s performance on grass leading up to this Wimbledon campaign led to concerns, but he has effectively silenced any doubts.
In his first four matches, he has demonstrated that he thrives on this surface and is a genuine contender for the title.
To secure a spot in his first Wimbledon semi-final, he will need to overcome the challenge posed by Holger Rune in this clash of the next generation.
At just 20 years old, Rune is also a rising star and is vying for his first grand slam semi-final, but he faces a tough task against Alcaraz.
British Pair Chasing More History
Naiktha Bains and Maia Lumsden have made history as the first all-British pair to reach the Wimbledon women’s doubles quarter-finals in 40 years, and now they have their sights set on a place in the semi-finals.
The last time a British team achieved this feat was in 1983, when Jo Durie and Anne Hobbs made it to the semis. Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens stand in Bains and Lumsden’s way.
If they were to win on Court Two, they would equal Durie and Hobbs’ achievement, which is impressive considering Lumsden thought her career was over after battling long Covid.
In the mixed doubles, Jonny O’Mara and Olivia Nicholls are flying the flag and have advanced to the semi-finals. They will face Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mate Pavic on Court Three.
In the men’s doubles quarter-finals, Jamie Murray and Neal Skupsi will also be in action alongside their respective partners Michael Venus and Wesley Koolhof.
