In a recent development, former lawyer of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, surrendered herself to police last Friday (July 7), according to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain. The 49-year-old woman was arrested by police at the Dang Wangi police headquarters. Shedding light on the matter, Husain stated, “She came together with her lawyer when she was arrested. She has been remanded while we conduct a criminal breach of trust investigation.”
Concerning Loo’s background prior to her arrest, Razarudin chose not to disclose any further information. However, he assured that their investigation would be thorough and they would cooperate with other agencies involved in the probe, including the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Additionally, they would also reach out to the Securities Commission to determine if Loo is wanted to assist their investigations,” highlighted Husain.
Loo is believed to have close ties with fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, who played a significant role in the infamous 1MDB financial scandal. On December 4, 2018, the Magistrate’s Court issued arrest warrants for Low, Loo, former 1MDB executive director Casey Tang Keng Chee, former 1MDB official Geh Choh Heng, and Jho Low’s associate Eric Tan Kim Loon. These warrants were issued after the individuals failed to appear in court to face charges of money laundering related to 1MDB.
In another development related to the 1MDB case, suspect Kee Kok Thiam was apprehended on May 3 upon his arrival at KLIA Terminal 2. However, Kee sadly passed away on May 30.
