The management of Forest City has announced plans to build an alternative road spanning one kilometre following a road collapse incident in Johor Baru. The incident occurred along Jalan Forest City-Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas near Iskandar Puteri and resulted in the closure of the exit road from Forest City. To address the issue, the construction of the alternative road has commenced and is expected to be completed by July 26, taking a total of 48 hours.
Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, the chairman of the Johor Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee, urged all parties to reduce movement in and out of Forest City for now and strictly prohibited heavy vehicles. As an interim solution, the exit road to Forest City will be utilized as a two-way route for light vehicles.
He stated on his official Facebook page, “Following the incident, the exit road from Forest City has been closed. All parties are advised to reduce movement in and out of Forest City for the time being, and all heavy vehicles are strictly prohibited.”
Mohamad Fazli also revealed that the collapsed stretch only affects the road connecting the bridge in Forest City and reassured the public that the State Public Works Department is closely monitoring the ground movement in the area. Earlier reports indicated that the road collapsed due to a sinkhole, with a 25-metre stretch affected. The incident occurred at approximately 2pm.
The construction of the alternative road aims to restore access and maintain connectivity in the area of the road collapse, ensuring the safety of motorists. Once completed, it will provide a viable alternative to the closed exit road from Forest City until further repairs can be made to restore the affected stretch. The Forest City management is now focused on expediting the construction process to minimize further inconvenience caused by the incident.
