SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) — Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the reigning champions of French football, are set to play a summer exhibition match in South Korea next month, accompanied by their South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in, according to industry sources on Monday. This exciting event will take place in Lee’s native city, Busan, on August 3, and will see PSG face off against K League 1 club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
Coupang Play, a popular South Korean streaming service, has taken the responsibility of organizing this highly anticipated match. The decision to hold this exhibition match came soon after PSG announced their acquisition of Lee Kang-in over the weekend. On top of this event, Coupang Play has also succeeded in inviting Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, two renowned European football clubs, to visit South Korea for summer exhibitions.
The football enthusiasts in South Korea will have the opportunity to watch Atletico Madrid play against a K League All-Star team on July 27, and then go head-to-head with Manchester City on July 30. These exciting matches are bound to attract a massive audience as they showcase the skills of some of the world’s best football players.
Lee Kang-in, a highly talented midfielder, recently signed a five-year deal with PSG. With this move, he joins the prestigious ranks of PSG alongside stars like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. PSG’s dominance in French football is evident from their incredible record of winning nine out of the past eleven Ligue 1 titles.
Prior to their appearance in South Korea, PSG is scheduled to play multiple exhibition matches in Japan, starting from July 26. This demonstrates PSG’s commitment to engaging with their global fanbase and fostering international partnerships.
Earlier this year, a South Korean promoter attempted to arrange a match involving Lee’s former Spanish club, RCD Mallorca, for June. Unfortunately, this plan fell through due to financial complications and a conflict with the K League’s schedule.
