Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim launched a scathing attack against Dr Mahathir Mohamad, criticizing his recent views on Malaysia’s multiracialism. Anwar accused the former leader of being desperate and attempting to regain relevance.
In response to Mahathir’s statements that Malaysia is essentially a Malay country, Anwar dismissed him, saying, “The ex-PM has lost his seat in Langkawi. I don’t think we should take him seriously. It’s his last desperate attempt to be seen, to be relevant.”
Pakatan Harapan leaders strongly reacted to Mahathir’s claim that the constitution has never defined Malaysia as a multicultural nation. Anwar, highlighting the constitutional position of Malays and the welfare of all citizens, emphasized that the constitution protects all Malaysians and their future.
Anwar then shifted his focus to “corrupt leaders” who had abused their power and accumulated immense wealth. He criticized their billionaire status and raised the question of their true intentions in helping the Malays. Anwar suggested that if they genuinely wanted to assist the Malays, they should surrender half of their wealth to benefit the community.
