Liverpool started their 2023 pre-season campaign with a 4-2 win against Karlsruher SC. Darwin Nunez opened the scoring in the third minute, but Lars Stindl equalized for Karlsruher towards the end of the first half. Sebastian Jung gave the home team a 2-1 lead, only for Cody Gakpo to bring Liverpool level. Diogo Jota then scored twice in added time to secure the victory.
Karlsruher 2-4 Liverpool Highlights:
Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister made their first appearances for Liverpool, with both playing for 45 minutes. Nunez put Liverpool ahead early on with a calm finish. Virgil van Dijk had a goal disallowed due to a foul. Stindl equalized for Karlsruher with a powerful strike. Nunez had a header saved, and a different Liverpool XI came out for the second half.
Karlsruher took the lead for the first time through Jung. Jota and Calum Scanlon were denied by the Karlsruher goalkeeper. Gakpo equalized for Liverpool, with Jota providing the assist. Jota then scored with an impressive finish, and in injury time, he completed his brace to seal the win.
