Malaysian singer Nadeera Zaini faced a barrage of hate comments during her time on the fifth season of the popular singing competition show, Big Stage. In a recent interview, she candidly shared her experience with the negativity.
During the show’s finale, Nadeera revealed that she almost gave up on the competition due to the relentless comments about her appearance. She admitted, “After receiving severe criticism for my looks during the third week of Big Stage, I made an effort to avoid reading online comments. But one day, while scrolling through my phone, I received a notification that someone had compared me to a pig.”
The hurtful comment left her devastated, and Nadeera couldn’t hold back her tears. She expressed her frustration, saying, “It’s disheartening when people mock or shame others based on their looks. We should respect and appreciate all of Allah’s creations.” The 30-year-old singer shared that the negative remarks not only affected her but also deeply impacted her family.
During a video call, Nadeera’s parents and aunt broke down in tears, questioning why she was being subjected to such insults. Despite the pain, she encouraged them to stay strong, saying, “This is just the beginning of my journey as an artist; there will be more challenges to face.”
Thankfully, Nadeera decided to persevere and continued in the competition. On July 9, she emerged as the winner of Big Stage, receiving the grand prize of RM100,000 and a trophy. It was a well-deserved victory for the talented singer.
One of the judges on the show, local composer Ajai, offered words of consolation and support to Nadeera. He said, “Anyone who says you aren’t beautiful deserves a good smack. Never underestimate yourself. Everything bestowed upon us by Allah has its own strengths.”
