Tom Cruise returns as Agent Ethan Hunt for the 7th installment of the Mission Impossible franchise with Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. This highly anticipated film is set to release in India on July 12, and it has already generated excitement among audiences worldwide. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given Mission Impossible 7 a U/A certification, with a runtime of 2 hours and 44 minutes (164 minutes).
Mission Impossible to reach over 2000 properties in India
The latest Mission Impossible film is set to have a wide release in India, spanning over 2000 theaters, which translates to over 2500 screens. This makes it the largest release for a Tom Cruise film in India. The advance bookings for Mission Impossible 7 opened two weeks prior to its release, and after a somewhat slow start in ticket sales, the film has gained momentum in recent days.
As of Tuesday morning at 10 am, Mission Impossible 7 has already sold approximately 68,000 tickets for the opening day in three major theater chains: PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. PVR is leading with 40,000 tickets sold, followed by Inox with 20,000 and Cinepolis with 8,000. By the end of Tuesday, it is estimated that the film will have sold around 90,000 tickets in these three chains for the opening day alone. The advance booking for the opening day is expected to surpass other Hollywood releases this year, such as Fast X, which sold 75,000 tickets, and Flash, which sold 50,000 tickets.
Looking at the weekend sales, Mission Impossible 7 has already sold over 150,000 tickets for the extended 5-day period. The sales are well distributed across the weekend, which bodes well for the film’s long-term success. While a Friday release would have resulted in stronger opening day sales, the decision to release during a non-holiday extended period has allowed for ticket sales to be spread across the 5-day period. Saturday bookings are already strong, and the film has the potential to achieve its biggest day since release on the 4th day, which is uncommon for mid-week Hollywood films that tend to front-load their sales.
Mission Impossible aims to become the biggest Hollywood opener in India
With the strong advance bookings, Mission Impossible 7 is targeting to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year in India, surpassing Fast X, which opened at Rs 12.50 crore. The bookings in the theater chains are expected to be 20 percent higher than Fast X. However, there is a close competition between the two films for the opening day. Fast X appeals more to tier 2 and 3 cities in India, while the Tom Cruise franchise caters to urban audiences and multiplex-goers. The ultimate result will depend on the walk-in audience, especially during evening and night shows.
Based on the advance bookings, the opening day is expected to earn around Rs 12 to 14 crore, with a chance of reaching Rs 15 crore depending on spot sales. This is a significant growth from the previous Mission Impossible film, which opened at Rs 9.50 crore, indicating a 35 percent increase. Initial reports from the West have been extremely positive, and if the audience’s word of mouth aligns with the media feedback, Mission Impossible 7 is poised for success in India. All eyes are now on this major release.
