Missouri’s cross country coach has resigned after one season in Columbia.
Lindsey Anderson, who previously coached at the College of Southern Idaho, has decided to leave MU to become the head coach in waiting at Weber State.
Anderson, an alumna of Weber State, had an impressive career as a Big Sky Conference Hall of Famer and 2008 Olympian. During her time as a student-athlete at Weber State from 2003 to 2007, she won nine conference championships in various distance events.
According to a press release, MU assistant Kyle Levermore will take on additional responsibilities coaching the Tigers’ distance and cross-country runners. Levermore joined the program in June 2023.
In a written statement, Anderson expressed her sadness about leaving Mizzou but also excitement about returning to her alma mater. She said, “The Mizzou Cross-Country team has a lot of momentum right now and Coach Levermore will do an amazing job with this team! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Mizzou Cross-Country and Track and Field team!”
Anderson was appointed as MU’s cross country coach on Feb. 28, 2023.
During her one season in Columbia, Anderson guided Missouri’s middle distance and distance runners. One notable achievement was leading Marquette Hanson to an NCAA Championship appearance, the first for a Tigers runner since 2019.
In response to Anderson’s departure, Coach Halter praised her contributions to the program and expressed confidence in Levermore’s abilities. He said, “Our cross country and distance groups are crucial to our program, and Kyle is an outstanding coach. He has proven to be an excellent addition to our coaching staff, and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish with our cross country and distance runners this season and beyond.”
