Nothing recently unveiled the Phone (2), the successor to its semi-transparent smartphone, the Phone (1), which was launched a year ago. The Phone (2) boasts several significant upgrades, including a flagship-class processor and improved build quality. Let’s take a closer look at the new features of the Nothing Phone (2).

Firstly, the design of the Phone (2) is more refined compared to its predecessor. The phone now features a slightly raised 3D glass back, giving it a more upmarket appearance. It comes in white, as well as a new grey option that accentuates the Glyph interface. The rear camera setup is also emphasized with black camera surrounds. The front of the device houses a larger 6.7″ 120Hz Full HD+ screen, with a thinner and symmetrical bezel. The punch-hole selfie camera has been moved to the center of the screen. Although the Phone (2) only has an IP54 rating, providing splash resistance, it is advised to keep it away from water.

Under the hood, the Phone (2) is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, offering an 80% performance improvement over its predecessor. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the higher-end option offers 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage, a significant improvement over the Phone (1)’s maximum 256GB capacity.

One of the standout features of the Phone (2) is its Glyph interface, which consists of LED strips at the back of the phone. The interface now offers more LED zones, allowing for greater customization and functionality. Users can customize their own ringtones and notifications, and the illuminated line can act as a timer indicator or a status bar for third-party apps. This feature allows users to keep track of specific progress without being distracted by running apps.

The camera system on the Phone (2) remains the same, with a dual 50MP setup. However, the main camera has been upgraded to a Sony IMX890 1/1.56 sensor, improving dynamic range and motion detection. The device now supports 4K video recording at 60fps and various other video features. The selfie camera has also been upgraded to a 32MP sensor, offering Advanced HDR and improved video capabilities.

The Phone (2) boasts a larger 4,700mAh battery compared to its predecessor, with improved fast wired charging up to 45W. Wireless charging remains at 15W, and reverse wireless charging at 5W is also supported. The 6.7″ display utilizes LTPO technology, allowing for a dynamically switchable refresh rate between 1-120Hz, reducing power consumption by up to 30%.

Nothing has also made significant improvements to its operating system, Nothing OS 2.0. The interface features a bold monochromatic design, stripping distracting colors from app icons. The home screen is laid out in a symmetrical grid design, showcasing Nothing’s widgets, including a pedometer and screentime.

The Phone (2) comes at a higher price point than the Phone (1). The official pricing for the US market starts at USD 599 for the 8GB+128GB model, with a pre-order discount of USD 50 for the higher-end variants. In Singapore, only the 12GB RAM options are available, priced at SGD 999 for the 256GB model and SGD 1,099 for the 512GB model. The Phone (2) will also be available in Malaysia through a partnership with Yes 5G, with the on-ground sale happening on July 15, 2023, at Crossover, Mid Valley.
