Ons Jabeur, aged 28, is determined to seek “revenge” against Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon. Currently ranked No. 6 in the world, Jabeur is preparing to face No. 3 seed Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. In last year’s Wimbledon final, Jabeur came close to winning a Grand Slam title but suffered a defeat at the hands of Rybakina with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Now, Jabeur and Rybakina are gearing up for a highly anticipated rematch at The Championships. Jabeur was deeply affected by her loss in the 2022 Wimbledon final and is fueled by the desire to surpass Rybakina this time around.
Jabeur’s thoughts on facing Rybakina at Wimbledon again
“It’s a difficult match, you know.
I’m probably going for my revenge. It was a difficult final last year. It’s going to bring a lot of memories. I’m hoping to play like today and, you know, just get the win because she’s an amazing player.
And you can see she’s like boom boom all the time. She had no mercy on her. So let’s see what’s going to happen.” Jabeur said.
Approaching this year’s Wimbledon match against Rybakina, Jabeur shares her intention to adhere more to her pre-match tactics.“Maybe two things.
The first is that I was emotionally exhausted. I wanted to keep pushing, but I felt a bit empty. The second thing is what my coach urged me to do, to stick to the plan even if I had different thoughts during the match.
So, yes, my main priority tomorrow is to fully commit to the plan my coach provides and even embrace strategies I may not like on the court. I aim to play more freely, focus on each point rather than the outcome,” Jabeur explained.
Lately, Jabeur has been vocal about her dream of winning a Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. However, her immediate focus needs to be on Rybakina.
