Real Madrid have undergone significant changes ahead of the 2023/24 season as they incorporate new players into their squad. With several veteran players departing in recent years, the Spanish giants are aiming to replace them with the next generation of talent from around the world. The early signs are indeed positive.
Carlo Ancelotti’s revamped Real Madrid team made their first appearance in a pre-season game against AC Milan, coming from behind to secure a 3-2 victory. The match highlighted the considerable changes that have taken place since their last outing.
One notable addition to Real Madrid’s roster this summer is Jude Bellingham, who joined the team from Borussia Dortmund in a highly anticipated move. Despite interest from top Premier League clubs, Los Blancos successfully secured the signature of the Englishman.
There are high expectations surrounding Bellingham, with many believing he has the potential to become a future Ballon d’Or contender.
Ancelotti praises Bellingham’s debut
Bellingham also made a strong impression on his debut for Real Madrid. Ancelotti spoke highly of the young midfielder while addressing reporters after the AC Milan match. He said:
“I was really impressed with Bellingham. We need to make some adjustments, particularly in our build-up play. We shifted our focus more towards the middle rather than the flanks to exploit the space between the lines.
“Bellingham played exceptionally well, and the team needs to adapt to his incredible quality. His ability to enter the box is crucial for the team. I’m satisfied with the overall performance, although we made a few mistakes in our build-up play.”
The Italian coach further expressed his admiration for Bellingham and his unique qualities:
“He’s a fantastic player who is crucial for us. He brings pace and intensity to the game as a complete midfielder. His movement off the ball is excellent, and he offers a different dimension compared to our other midfielders. He exploits the available space and adds a fantastic dynamic to the squad.”
In their pre-season friendly against AC Milan, Real Madrid staged an impressive comeback in the second half. Established stars such as Fede Valverde, who scored twice, and Vinicius Junior, who netted the winning goal, stood out. Apart from Arda Guler, who is nursing a minor injury, all the new summer signings had some involvement in the match.
Brahim Diaz and Joselu, who started in the first half, delivered subpar performances. However, Fran Garcia shone brightly in the second half. Ultimately, it was Bellingham who caught the most attention.
