Yair Rodriguez remains resilient despite his high-profile loss at UFC 290.
At UFC 290, Rodriguez (15-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) experienced defeat as he failed to unify the featherweight titles, succumbing to a third-round TKO against Alexander Volkanovski (26-2 MMA, 13-1 UFC) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was largely one-sided, with Rodriguez finding minimal moments of success.
After claiming the interim belt in February, Rodriguez had hoped to dominate the 145-pound division. However, Volkanovski had other plans, and the outcome was tough for the Mexican fighter. Rodriguez was transported to the hospital and did not immediately address the media.
Despite the setback, Rodriguez took to social media to express his admiration for Volkanovski and his team and made a promise to come back stronger. In an Instagram post, he said, “Thanks for watching friends. I know that expectations were not met, but I can only say congratulations to @alexvolkanovski for an excellent performance. Resilience is something that is part of me and all Mexicans. This is not the end. Many more opportunities will come!”
Rodriguez, who is 30 years old, has only lost three times in his UFC career, with his previous defeats coming against Volkanovski, former featherweight champion Max Holloway, and former lightweight titleholder Frankie Edgar. However, Rodriguez has demonstrated his ability to bounce back stronger after each loss.
