Apple Inc., facing controversy in France over the radiation levels of its iPhone 12, has advised tech-support staff not to disclose any information when consumers inquire about the issue. According to internal communication, Apple employees have been instructed to say they have no information to share regarding the French government’s claim that the iPhone 12 exceeds electromagnetic radiation standards. Furthermore, staff should also decline customer requests to return or exchange the phone, except within the past two weeks of purchase, which aligns with Apple’s usual return policy.

If customers ask about the phone’s safety, they should be informed that all Apple products undergo vigorous testing to ensure their safety.

This controversy arose when the French government requested Apple to halt the sale of the iPhone 12, stating that tests indicated the device emits excessive electromagnetic waves. France’s digital minister demanded that Apple resolve the issue within two weeks through a software update.

Apple, on the other hand, refuted these allegations and expressed its willingness to cooperate with France to demonstrate compliance with regulations. The company shared its in-house and third-party lab test results with French officials to prove that the iPhone 12’s radiation levels fall within legal limits.

It is worth noting that Apple had already begun phasing out the iPhone 12 at the time of this controversy. The model, which debuted in 2020, ceased sales on Tuesday when Apple unveiled its iPhone 15 line. However, France’s position could cause concern among the millions of existing iPhone 12 users. Counterpoint Research reported that over 100 million units of the device were sold within the first seven months of its release.

In response to France’s initial statement, other European Union countries such as Belgium and Germany have also started evaluating the iPhone 12’s radiation levels.
