In a recent development, news publisher Associated Press has announced its partnership with OpenAI, aiming to collaborate on select news content and technology. This collaboration will allow both companies to explore the potential of generative AI in news products.
Under this agreement, OpenAI will be granted a license to access a portion of AP’s text archive, while AP will have the opportunity to utilize the cutting-edge technology developed by ChatGPT, OpenAI’s creator. It is worth noting that AP currently does not employ generative AI techniques in its news stories.
Kristin Heitmann, AP’s Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, emphasized the importance of news organizations being involved in pioneering AI technology. Heitmann stated, “News organizations must have a seat at the table… so that newsrooms large and small can leverage this technology to benefit journalism.”
Reporting from Bengaluru, this significant collaboration holds promising prospects for the future of news publishing. It will be interesting to witness the impact of generative AI in shaping the field of journalism. Pooja Desai and Maju Samuel contributed to the editing of this report.
