Elon Musk has unveiled his own artificial intelligence bot called Grok, which he claims is already superior to ChatGPT 3.5 in various benchmarks. The prototype is currently being tested with a limited group of users in the US. Grok is the first product to come out of Musk’s xAI company and is being developed using data from Musk’s X, previously known as Twitter. This ensures that Grok is more up-to-date with the latest developments compared to other bots that rely on static datasets.
In addition to providing accurate answers, Grok is also designed to have a sense of humor and a rebellious streak. Musk had previously signed a letter calling for a pause in the advancement of AI models in order to establish shared safety protocols. While he admitted that the petition was futile, he wanted to express his recommendation for a pause.
Recently, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order for AI oversight, aiming to establish standards for security and privacy protections. Meanwhile, tech leaders and academics discussed the risks of AI at the UK’s AI Safety Summit.
Grok was developed over the course of two months and will eventually be available to all X Premium+ users once it completes the testing phase. Musk has expressed his ambition to expand X beyond being a social platform, envisioning it as a comprehensive app similar to China’s WeChat. Grok will play an essential role in achieving this goal. Although xAI is a separate company, it plans to work closely with X, Tesla, and other businesses.
