German container shipping line, Hapag-Lloyd AG, has announced plans to install SpaceX’s Starlink service on its ships, following the success of a pilot program involving four vessels. The company, which owns and manages 122 out of its 259 ships, is aiming to provide reliable on-board connectivity for its crews. Due to the nature of their work and the lack of proximity to land-based networks, seafarers often face months of isolation at sea, especially exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
