Renowned former chief design officer for Apple, Jony Ive, has unveiled his latest groundbreaking creation—a limited edition turntable priced at an impressive £50,000 (RM298,749).
Collaborating with hi-fi and audio equipment manufacturer Linn, Ive’s design collective LoveFrom has developed the Sondek LP12-50 turntable. In celebration of Linn’s 50th anniversary, only 250 units of this masterpiece will be made available.
Linn has highlighted LoveFrom’s design expertise in enhancing the power/speed control button and hinges, resulting in a truly immersive and enjoyable experience with the turntable. Additionally, LoveFrom has made aesthetic refinements to the classic LP12 form.
Prominent features of the device include a meticulously crafted machined aluminum power/speed control button and hinges, complemented by a stylish space grey aluminum base.
Buyers will receive a unique aluminum plaque, displaying the unit’s number within the limited series of 250 and the name of the builder. The turntable will be available in both natural wood and painted white finish options.
In 2022, Jony Ive reached out to Linn to express his admiration for the brand and its products via LinkedIn. Linn CEO Gilad Tiefenbrun recalled, “Jony said that if Linn ever needed help on a project, LoveFrom would love to get involved.” This communication coincidentally occurred as Linn was preparing to celebrate its major milestone in 2023.
The following day, Tiefenbrun received an email from Ive, expressing his eager interest in assisting Linn in designing a special edition turntable to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary.
Having spent 27 years at Apple, Ive’s profound impact on the company’s design language is evident. His notable contributions include the iconic redesign of the iMac into colorful translucent computers in 1997, his collaboration with Steve Jobs on the development of the first iPhone in 2007, and later pioneering the creation of the Apple Watch in 2011.
Upon Ive’s departure from Apple in 2019 to establish LoveFrom, it was announced that Apple would continue to collaborate with his firm on exclusive projects. However, this partnership concluded last year.
