(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co announced on Monday that it plans to increase the number of Tesla’s Superchargers in its electric vehicle charging network from 12,000 to over 15,000 chargers.
The American automaker stated that it will expand its BlueOval Charge Network, which is available in North America, by 25%, bringing the total number of chargers to over 106,000.
According to the company’s statement, customers will be able to access three new charging providers, namely Francis Energy, Blink, and Red E, in the United States and Canada. The network will also feature embedded charger routing and convenient payment options through FordPass.
With the addition of these three providers, the network will gain more than 10,000 new chargers, including over 550 new DC fast chargers.
The BlueOval Charge Network is a collaboration of multiple charging networks, making it the largest public charging network in North America provided by automotive manufacturers. Some of the other providers in the network include Shell Recharge Solutions, Electrify America, EVgo, and ChargePoint.
This expansion demonstrates Ford’s commitment to investing in charging infrastructure and improving accessibility for electric vehicle owners across the region.
Ensuring an extensive and reliable charging network is essential for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, as it alleviates concerns regarding range anxiety and supports long-distance travel.
