PETALING JAYA: Maxis has unveiled new postpaid plans with 5G connectivity starting from RM79 per month.

On its website, the telco said existing customers can experience 5G after they upgrade their plans. They can also check for network availability through its 5G coverage tracker.

In an FAQ, the telco added that customers who already have a 4G LTE supported SIM card should be able to access 5G with Maxis’ latest mobile plans with “just a few clicks”. But if their SIM card is an old version, then they might have to upgrade to a new one.

The company advised customers to dial 1008*5# to check if they need to get a new SIM card.

The Maxis Postpaid 79 plan for RM79 per month comes with 80GB 4G/5G data plus additional 40GB data for 5G only. The company said the additional data will be exhausted first before utilizing the 4G/5G data.

Other plans include Maxis Postpaid 109 for RM109 monthly with 100GB data and bonus 50GB 5G only data, Maxis Postpaid 139 for RM139 monthly with 120GB data and bonus 60GB 5G only data, Maxis Postpaid 169 for RM169 monthly with 150GB data and bonus 75GB 5G only data.

The company is also offering a Maxis Postpaid 199 plan for RM199 monthly with 200GB data and bonus 100GB 5G only data.

For prepaid customers, the company is offering a new Hotlink prepaid plan with 75GB data (50GB 4G/5G data plus bonus 25GB 5G only data) for RM45 per month.

Other Hotlink 5G plans include 25GB data (15GB 4G/5G data plus bonus 10GB 5G only data) for RM15/week). More details on the Hotlink 5G plans are available on the website.

Hotlink customers can also claim a one-month free trial to experience 5G access on the Hotlink app. The trial period is available from today (Aug 15) to Sept 15. After the free trial ends, the 5G access will cost RM5 with 30 days validity.

The company also said that existing and new Maxis Home WiFi subscribers will experience “better home Internet connectivity” under the RM158 per month plan with unlimited 4G/5G speed.

On Aug 14, Maxis announced that it is bringing 5G plans to customers after obtaining shareholders approval at its EGM meeting and signing the Access Agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad, the country’s wholesale 5G network service operator.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Maxis has finally agreed to sign the 5G access agreement after a series of discussions was held following the Cabinet’s May 3 decision to switch to a dual 5G network next year.

He also said the signing meant that now all major telcos in Malaysia will provide 5G.
