(Reuters) – Meta Platforms on Thursday announced its plans to introduce Code Llama, an artificial intelligence (AI) model that will assist in writing computer code. The social media giant aims to further its push into the field of new technology.
According to a blogpost by Meta, Code Llama will be offered for free and will be capable of writing code based on human text prompts. In addition, it can also be used for code completion and debugging purposes.
Since the introduction of OpenAI’s ChatGPT last year, there has been a surge in interest from businesses and enterprises in the emerging generative AI market. Organizations are seeking new capabilities and refining their business processes.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has already released several AI models this year, most of which are accessible for free. One such model is Llama, an open-source language model that poses a significant challenge to proprietary models offered by competitors like Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Alphabet’s Google.
The new AI model, Code Llama, is built on Meta’s latest Llama 2 language model. It will be available in various configurations as the company prepares to compete with GitHub Copilot, Microsoft’s code-writing tool.
Code Llama is compatible with popular coding languages such as Python, Java, and C++. However, Meta advises against using it for general text tasks.
Meta’s foray into AI models has garnered attention and is expected to disrupt the AI market. The company’s continuous innovation and the introduction of new technologies aim to revolutionize various industries.
Meta’s announcement comes as it strengthens its position in the AI and technology sectors, rivaling other major players like Microsoft and Google. The company’s strategic moves highlight the increasing significance of AI in driving innovation and transforming business operations.
