TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors has plans to invest about 20 billion yen ($133.8 million) into the new electric vehicle unit of Renault, according to a report by the Nikkei newspaper on Tuesday.
Spokespeople for Mitsubishi were not immediately available to comment on the report.
The potential investment by Mitsubishi into the EV unit, known as Ampere, comes in the wake of the restructured alliance finalized in July between its partners Renault and Nissan Motor.
As part of the alliance, Nissan committed to investing up to 600 million euros ($640.86 million) in the unit, reflecting its role as a strategic investor and its desire to secure a board seat on the new company.
