A man stumbled into a Tennessee convenience store nude with his hands tied behind his back – eventually leading to a police chase and one arrest, according to officials.
According to an affidavit, the man claimed that on August 23, he arranged to meet up with a woman named Diamond whom he had met on a dating app a month earlier. When he arrived at the location she provided, she led him into a residence where several men emerged from another room and attacked him.
The assailants allegedly beat him, striking him in the face and head with their firearms. They then stripped him of his clothing, tied his hands behind his back, and ransacked his pants, taking $400 in cash, his phone, credit cards, and debit cards. The men then forced him out of the house in the nude and locked him in the trunk of his own car, a 2015 Nissan Sentra.
The man managed to escape from the trunk and sought refuge at a nearby convenience store, where he contacted the police. Officials noted that he sustained injuries including a concussion, lacerations, and abrasions.
About two weeks after the incident, Arkansas State Police spotted the stolen Nissan Sentra in West Memphis. Following a pursuit, they apprehended a 20-year-old suspect named Amir Collins from Waterford, Mississippi. The victim positively identified Collins from a lineup.
Court records indicate that Collins was subsequently booked into Shelby County Jail on November 3. He faces charges of especially aggravated robbery, especially aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault acting in concert. His bond was set at $150,000.
This bizarre and shocking incident has drawn attention to the dangers of online dating and the potential risks of meeting someone in person without taking proper precautions. Authorities are advising individuals to exercise caution and ensure personal safety when arranging meetups with individuals they meet through dating apps.
