(Reuters) – OpenAI is in advanced talks with former Apple designer Jony Ive and SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son to build the “iPhone of artificial intelligence”, fuelled by more than $1 billion in funding from the Japanese conglomerate, the Financial Times reported on Thursday.
According to the Financial Times, OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research lab, is engaged in discussions with Jony Ive, the former designer of Apple products, and Masayoshi Son, the CEO of SoftBank. Their goal is to develop the “iPhone of artificial intelligence”. The project is expected to receive more than $1 billion in funding from SoftBank.
OpenAI was established in 2015 with the aim of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) that can outperform humans in most economically valuable work. It is focused on ensuring that AGI benefits all of humanity. The lab’s mission is to directly build safe and beneficial artificial general intelligence, or to aid others in achieving this outcome.
