(Reuters) – Artificial intelligence leader OpenAI announced on Monday that it is launching a version of ChatGPT specifically designed for large businesses. This move further aligns the offerings of OpenAI and its financial backer Microsoft in the market. The new offering, called ChatGPT Enterprise, provides enhanced security, privacy, and faster access to OpenAI’s technology. Notable early customers of ChatGPT Enterprise include Block, Carlyle, and Estee Lauder Companies.
In November, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for consumers, which rapidly gained popularity for tasks such as writing and coding. By January, it had garnered 100 million monthly active users. Interestingly, a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that many individuals in the United States have been using ChatGPT to assist them with work-related tasks, despite discouragement from their employers.
With the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI aims to encourage employers to embrace the usage of ChatGPT at work. While Microsoft already offers businesses access to ChatGPT through its Azure OpenAI Service, it requires businesses to be customers of Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform.
In contrast, ChatGPT Enterprise subscribers are not required to subscribe to Azure, according to OpenAI. The relationship between OpenAI and Microsoft has seen the introduction of overlapping services in the past, and it remains unclear how much competition exists between the two companies for customers.
Responding to inquiries about potential competition with Microsoft in terms of customer acquisition, an OpenAI spokesperson stated that “customers can choose which platform is right for their business.”
This latest development signifies OpenAI’s strategic move to tap into the enterprise market with its AI-powered ChatGPT tool. By offering enhanced security, privacy, and faster access, OpenAI aims to cater to the specific needs of large businesses. As the adoption of AI continues to grow in the corporate world, both OpenAI and Microsoft are leveraging their respective capabilities to capture a significant share of this expanding market.
The adoption of AI technology in the enterprise sector holds great potential for increased efficiency and productivity. With ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI is poised to become a key player in this domain, providing businesses with powerful AI-driven solutions for a wide range of tasks and applications.
