Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing has announced plans to construct a chip plant in Miyagi prefecture in northern Japan. The company will partner with SBI Holdings for this venture and is expected to make an initial investment of approximately 400 billion yen ($2.67 billion). The Nikkei business daily reported this development on Friday.

According to the report, Powerchip aims to have the new chip plant operational by 2026. This is a significant step for the company as it looks to expand its presence and capabilities in the semiconductor industry.

Earlier this month, Reuters had reported that Powerchip was in the final stages of selecting the location for its new plant. It was also stated that the company was in negotiations with the local government regarding subsidies to support the first phase of the project.

The establishment of this new chip plant signifies Powerchip’s commitment to enhancing its production capacity and meeting the growing demand for semiconductors.
