BERLIN: Fast cars, thrilling overtaking manoeuvres and tough business: In motorsports, nothing beats Formula 1. On PCs and consoles you can now once again plunge into the wild world of the racing series with “F1 23.”

All 23 tracks featuring in the current season are included and drivers like Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are playable along with their cars. As last year’s edition did without a story mode, the story from “F1 2021” is continued in “F1 23.”

A fictional driver is placed in a racing team whose future depends on the rival's father.A fictional driver is placed in a racing team whose future depends on the rival’s father.

In the role of driver Aiden Jackson, the player joins the fictitious Konnersport Butler team. Jackson’s teammate is, of all people, his former arch-rival, on whose rich father the future of the new racing team depends.

Besides races and cut-scenes, there are some decisions to be made off the track. The story becomes exciting when a talented woman finds her way into Formula 1. With about six hours, the story mode offers a decent amount of playing time.

Technically, the control of the cars is better than before and driving nows feels more precise thanks to improved vibrations. The new “F1 World” combines all game modes from Grand Prix to online play, where you can unlock new car parts and drivers for your team.

The closest you'll probably ever get to racing on a Formula 1 circuit is in 'F1 23', where you can race on tracks of the current season. The closest you’ll probably ever get to racing on a Formula 1 circuit is in ‘F1 23’, where you can race on tracks of the current season.

Like many annually released sports simulations, “F1 23” is not a revolution, but thanks to the return of the story mode, it is at least more extensive. For racing fans, it is without question worth getting back into the cockpit once more.
