Talk about your phone being your lifeline, and it starts from the time you wake up in the morning.

A recent survey was done by Reviews.org involving Americans 18 and older about their phone habits and behaviours, and what they found further proves that we’re all more alike than we would like to think.

So, the results of the survey are in: More than half of Americans, 56.9%, said they are addicted to their mobile devices, which was more than last year, Reviews.org reported.

Within the results of the 2023 survey, 89% of Americans say they check their phones within the first 10 minutes of waking up; Americans were reported to check their phones 144 times per day; 60% sleep with their phone at night; 75% of Americans feel uneasy leaving their phone at home; 75% of Americans check their phones within five minutes of receiving a notification; 55% say that they have never gone longer than 24 hours without their cellphone; and 57% consider themselves “addicted” to their phones, in addition to other findings.

But you might be wondering what changed from 2022 to 2023 in terms of cellphone usage. The answer to that is this year Americans only check their phones an average of 144 times a day, a big drop compared to the 344 times a day reported in the last cellphone usage survey that was published in January 2022.

Another change lies in Americans deciding to drive safer, with 27.1% saying they use or look at their phone while driving, which is a 1% decrease since last year.

With screen time being up (an increase of 30%) and Americans sleeping with their phones at night, most Americans aren’t focusing on time away from their devices, resulting in most Americans checking their phones first thing in the morning.

This year, 6% of Americans are said to check their phone within the first 10 minutes of waking up, which is a 10.6% increase since last year, Reviews.org reported. – pennlive.com/Tribune News Service
