(Reuters) – Warner Music Group, the record label giant representing artists like Radiohead, AC/DC, and Madonna, has signed a partnership with Chinese short-video app TikTok to increase its social media earnings.
The long-term agreement will help Warner Music’s artists and songwriters generate additional income and promotional opportunities from TikTok’s user base of over 1 billion people. The companies made this announcement on Tuesday.
The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Social media platforms such as TikTok have seen numerous emerging artists gain popularity when their music is used in viral content, leading them to secure major record deals.
Under this new agreement, Warner Music’s artists and songwriters will also gain access to TikTok’s brand partners, including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), as well as new monetization features such as merchandise, ticketing, and digital goods.
This partnership licenses Warner Recorded Music, Warner Chappell Music, TikTok Music (TikTok’s premium streaming service), CapCut (video editor app), and TikTok’s Commercial Music Library.
According to Zaheer Kachwala’s report, the financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
