LONDON (Reuters) – According to Bloomberg, Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata, is expected to build a battery plant in southwest England to supply new electric vehicles. The chosen location is said to be in Somerset.
An announcement regarding this decision is anticipated to be made by the company this week.
There is currently no update on when this announcement will happen, according to a government spokesperson.
Amidst previous media reports suggesting that Spain was also being considered, Britain appears to have emerged as the chosen destination for the factory.
This would be a significant accomplishment for Britain as the country seeks to establish local electric vehicle (EV) battery capacity, which is crucial for automakers.
Furthermore, Tata’s selection of Britain would support Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s economic growth objectives and commitment to achieving net-zero goals, including the prohibition of new petrol and diesel car sales from 2030.
