BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Fiona Scott Morton, a U.S. economist, will bring valuable insight from her consulting work with major technology companies to her new role as the chief economist at the European Commission, according to EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager. Vestager defended her choice by emphasizing the importance of Scott Morton’s experience and her familiarity with the European Commission’s system.
“Having experience is a positive aspect; she is well-versed in our system,” Vestager said, addressing concerns over potential conflicts of interest arising from Scott Morton’s consulting work for Big Tech.
