(Reuters) – Volkswagen plans to manufacture their Trinity electric vehicles (EV) at their Zwickau factory, according to sources from the company, as reported by German daily Handelsblatt.
The decision regarding the location of the prestigious EV will be discussed during the Volkswagen supervisory board meeting on Friday, as Handelsblatt reported.
A spokesperson from the German automaker declined to comment on the report.
The Trinity electric car, which will be developed on the new SSP platform, was originally scheduled to be launched in 2026.
However, shortly after assuming office, Chief Executive Oliver Blume postponed the project for two years in order to alleviate pressure on the struggling software subsidiary, Cariad.
Volkswagen had initially planned to construct a new factory for this model, but due to setbacks in the brand’s development, the company is now also considering converting their Wolfsburg factory.
