WhatsApp is reportedly testing a compatible version of its app for iPad.
According to leaker website WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta version for iPad is now available through a new update on Apple’s developer app TestFlight.
WhatsApp beta iOS testers can set up WhatsApp on iPad by linking their device. They can do so by clicking on Settings, selecting “Linked devices” and then “Link a device” to scan a QR code.
The website stated that the new companion mode means any messages sent or received on the iPad will be synced with their phone.
It added that some features may not work properly due to the app still being in beta or testing mode. The website said that if users don’t have WhatsApp beta on TestFlight, they have to wait until it is officially released on the App Store.
News about WhatsApp for iPad has gotten a positive reaction among users on X (formerly Twitter) where some left comments saying “Finally” and “It’s a huge dream come true!”.
Back in 2022, WhatsApp head Will Cathcart acknowledged that “people have wanted an iPad app for a long time” in an interview with The Verge.
“We’d love to do it,” he said, adding that the company has the underlying technology to support multi-device.
WhatsApp’s recent updates for Apple products include a new native app for Mac computers back in August with features such as group calls with up to eight people for video and 32 people for voice calls.
