BERLIN: YouTube is planning to launch a number of new artificial intelligence-based tools to make video creation easier, the Google subsidiary announced via livestream on Sept 21.

As more and more tech firms are updating their products by incorporating AI, YouTube is rolling out several new features that can help with adding text, backgrounds, music and other elements to your videos with only a few prompts.

A new tool dubbed Dream Screen for the video platform’s TikTok competitor YouTube Shorts, for example, allows users to add video or image backgrounds generated by AI to the vertical videos.

But YouTube is also launching new tools to help with the creation of longer videos.

“We’re unveiling a suite of products and features that will enable people to push the bounds of creative expression yet again,” YouTube vice president of Emerging Experiences & Community Products Toni Reid said.

“We know the production process for videos can be difficult and often prevents that first-time creator from uploading their first video,” she said.

To simplify the process of creating content and sharing videos, YouTube is introducing a new free app called YouTube Create, Reid said, which will allow users to “spend more energy on things they find creatively rewarding.”

The app, which will first be available for Android, includes video editing tools such as precision editing, automatic captioning, voiceover capabilities and access to a library of filters, effects, transitions and royalty-free music, so creators no longer need to rely on complex editing software.

The new tools will initially be made available to users in the US before they are rolled out in Europe at the end of the year. – dpa
